Zo wordt er gesproken over het veranderende perspectief op zijn eigen werk door de jaren heen de nieuw gegenereerde betekenissen die de kunstenaar herkent in zijn voorgaande werk, waaronder Straggling, Day 7; een groep werken, zoals de Hurt Models, en tentoonstellingen zoals Club Mama Gemütlich en meer recent Laboratories of Empire, evenals zijn werk Real Lear, in samenwerking met een boerengemeenschap in Japan, of werk met voormalige leprapatiënten. Voor zijn films vraagt hij vaak bekende acteurs, die hij speciaal op het oog heeft, vanwege inhoudelijke raakvlakken met de thematiek. Er wordt gesproken over hoe die werken zich verhouden met het oorspronkelijke idee en beoogde doel. Ook het specifieke gebruik van zijn handgemaakte notebooks komt aan de orde die als denkraam fungeren. Deze boeken vol noties, titels, schetsjes en collage-elementen zijn een essentieel onderdeel van het maakproces voor Bastiaans. Hij ziet ze daarom ook graag uiteindelijk in een museum liggen. Veel van de notebooks hebben een leporello structuur, waardoor Bastiaans verschillende ideeën en momenten van inspiratie naast elkaar kan leggen. Voorgaande exposities werden met behulp van de notebooks onderzocht en gepland. Bastiaans reflecteert op verschillende opstellingen, en er wordt ingegaan op zijn ideeën voor toekomstige tentoonstellingen, inclusief de gebruikte materialen. Het vervangen van elementen, zoals specifieke medicijnen die van belang zijn voor het narratief van Straggling, zou nauwkeurig moeten gebeuren. Tegenwoordig maakt hij ook gebruik van een Moleskine notebook voor digitale notities. Het tweede deel gaat nog specifieker in op het maakproces, waarbij keuzes veelal vanuit een gut-feeling worden
