Using a participatory action research approach, data were collected through a literature review, neighbourhood scans, focus groups, PhotoVoice, interviews, and validation sessions. In total, 97 participants contributed: 29 neighbourhood professionals, 44 women, and 24 girls. Guided by the Movement Friendly Environment model, the analysis showed that both physical and social conditions influence the accessibility and appeal of meeting places. Key conditions included proximity, safety, cleanliness, seating, greenery, and gender-sensitive design. Preferred activities involved cooking, language learning, informal gatherings, and sports, ideally in familiar, culturally sensitive, and child-friendly settings. Barriers included unclear communication, language difficulties, lack of childcare, and feelings of exclusion. Trust, ownership, and emotional safety were essential for engagement. The findings highlight the value of integrated, participatory approaches in designing inclusive public spaces."},"dsDescriptionDate":{"typeName":"dsDescriptionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2025-08-14"}}]},{"typeName":"subject","multiple":true,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":["Medicine, Health and Life Sciences","Social Sciences"]},{"typeName":"keyword","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Living environment, social cohesion, meeting places, disadvantaged neighbourhoods, women with a non-Western migration background, teenage girls, PhotoVoice method"}}]},{"typeName":"language","multiple":true,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":["English"]},{"typeName":"producer","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"producerName":{"typeName":"producerName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Louis Bolk Institute"},"producerAbbreviation":{"typeName":"producerAbbreviation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"LBI"},"producerURL":{"typeName":"producerURL","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"https://www.louisbolk.nl/"}},{"producerName":{"typeName":"producerName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"GGD regio Utrecht"},"producerAbbreviation":{"typeName":"producerAbbreviation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"GGDrU"},"producerURL":{"typeName":"producerURL","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"https://ggdru.nl/"}}]},{"typeName":"productionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2024-04-01"},{"typeName":"productionPlace","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["Province of Utrecht, the Netherlands"]},{"typeName":"grantNumber","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"grantNumberAgency":{"typeName":"grantNumberAgency","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"ZonMw"}}]},{"typeName":"distributionDate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2026-01-01"},{"typeName":"depositor","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Louis Bolk Institute"},{"typeName":"dateOfDeposit","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2025-08-14"},{"typeName":"timePeriodCovered","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"timePeriodCoveredStart":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredStart","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2024-03-01"},"timePeriodCoveredEnd":{"typeName":"timePeriodCoveredEnd","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2025-06-30"}}]},{"typeName":"dateOfCollection","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"dateOfCollectionStart":{"typeName":"dateOfCollectionStart","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2024-04-01"},"dateOfCollectionEnd":{"typeName":"dateOfCollectionEnd","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2025-03-01"}}]},{"typeName":"kindOfData","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["Qualitative data from interviews and focus groups"]},{"typeName":"software","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"softwareName":{"typeName":"softwareName","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"MAX QDA"},"softwareVersion":{"typeName":"softwareVersion","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"24"}}]}]},"dansRights":{"displayName":"Rights Metadata","name":"dansRights","fields":[{"typeName":"dansRightsHolder","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["Louis Bolk Institute","GGD regio Utrecht"]},{"typeName":"dansPersonalDataPresent","multiple":false,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":"Yes"},{"typeName":"dansMetadataLanguage","multiple":true,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":["English"]}]},"dansRelationMetadata":{"displayName":"Relation Metadata","name":"dansRelationMetadata","fields":[{"typeName":"dansAudience","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["https://www.narcis.nl/classification/D60000","https://www.narcis.nl/classification/D20000"],"expandedvalue":[{"@id":"https://www.narcis.nl/classification/D60000","termName":[{"lang":"en","value":"Social sciences"},{"lang":"nl","value":"Sociale wetenschappen"}],"vocabularyUri":"https://www.narcis.nl/classification/"},{"@id":"https://www.narcis.nl/classification/D20000","termName":[{"lang":"en","value":"Life sciences, medicine and health care"},{"lang":"nl","value":"Levenswetenschappen, geneeskunde en gezondheidszorg"}],"vocabularyUri":"https://www.narcis.nl/classification/"}]}]},"dansSocialSciences":{"displayName":"Social Sciences and Humanities","name":"dansSocialSciences","fields":[{"typeName":"dansUniverse","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["Women with a non-Western migration background and teenage girls (12-18 years old) in the Netherlands."]},{"typeName":"dansSamplingProcedureFreeText","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Recruitment was conducted in four neighbourhoods via existing networks of neighbourhood and youth workers. Approaches varied per location depending on the size and availability of these networks and their willingness to cooperate. Neighbourhood workers were identified through neighbourhood tours, municipal suggestions, desk research, and snowball sampling. Contact was established via phone and email.\nFlyers tailored to the target groups (women with a non-Western migration background and teenage girls) were distributed in Dutch, English, and Arabic through community centres, local venues, and online channels. In one neighbourhood, flyers were also distributed door-to-door. Researchers attended some local activities to recruit participants directly. Participants could register via neighbourhood workers or a QR code on the flyer."},{"typeName":"dansDataCollectionSituation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Participants generally showed high levels of engagement and cooperativeness. Neighbourhood workers actively contributed during 1.5–2 hour focus groups. The women with a non-Western migration background participated enthusiastically in two-hour PhotoVoice sessions, which took place in familiar, low-threshold settings. Translation support and the visual nature of the method helped overcome language barriers. Teenage girls participated in short (10–60 minute) interviews held in accessible locations such as schools or community centres. Although interviews with girls were not audio-recorded, researchers documented detailed oral summaries immediately after. Validation sessions were well attended and provided valuable feedback. Informed consent was obtained in all cases, and small incentives (gift cards or snacks) helped to support participation. No repeated contact moments or call backs were necessary. Collaboration with neighbourhood workers played a key role in smooth recruitment and data collection across all locations."},{"typeName":"dansResponseRate","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"As this study employed a qualitative and participatory design, a traditional response rate is not applicable. However, some indicative figures are available. Of the 35 neighbourhood workers invited, 29 participated in the focus groups (83%). A total of 28 women registered via a form, yet 44 ultimately participated in the PhotoVoice sessions due to additional spontaneous attendance. For teenage girls, 10 registered online, while 24 participated in total, including those recruited through outreach and local activities."}]},"dansTemporalSpatial":{"displayName":"Temporal and Spatial
