Het volgt de ontwikkeling van het werk van Lydia Schouten, vanuit het gezin waarin ze opgroeit, haar wens om kunstenaar te worden, haar opleidingen, en eerste performances in de context van de tweede feministische golf en haar thuissituatie. Daarbij wordt de rol van De Appel en Wies Smals benoemd, en het tijdschrift dat ze met andere vrouwen begon om het werk van vrouwelijke kunstenaars beter voor het voetlicht te brengen. Na haar performances, registraties en single channel video werk volgen begin jaren 1990 ruimte vullende installaties, geïnspireerd door haar verblijf in New York in de jaren tachtig. De ideale installatie omstandigheden voor deze werken wordt besproken aan de hand van voorbeelden ui de recente geschiedenis van Shattererd Ghost Stories (1990), de rol van kunstlicht voor de zeggingskracht, tot en met de tentoonstelling op het moment van het gesprek bij Rozenstraat – a rose is a rose is a rose, in Amsterdam, waarvoor ze een component uit de installatie A Virus of Sadness heeft opgesteld in een nieuwe configuratie met de videoperformance Smile (1979), die beter past bij de performanceregistratie van Sexobject die ook in nieuwe configuratie als installatie is opgesteld door het frame dat tijdens de performance is gebruikt heen. Hiervoor zijn de opnamen digitaal gerestaureerd met Ramon Coelho, wat de nieuwe mogelijkheid van project toelaat, vanwege de zoveel hogere
