Lange tijd mocht de kustvisserij doorgaan; Scheveningen was uitvalshaven, ook voor vissers van elders. 's Ochtends vroeg voer de vloot uit, zo'n 50, 60 schepen in totaal. Bij de buitenhaven lagen Duitsers klaar om de vloot op verstekelingen te controleren en om te controleren of de schepen niet te ver uit de kust voeren. Zeemijnen vormden een groot gevaar. Rond 1943 moest Pronk weg uit Scheveningen. Kwamen terecht in een naar verhouding luxe huis aan de Benschoplaan. De douche werd gebruikt als opslagruimte voor de netten en om de radio in te verbergen. Na een half jaar stiekem teruggekeerd naar hun huis in Scheveningen, dat was dichtgetimmerd maar wel nog water en stroom had. Aten veel vis. Grootste deel van de vangst kwam op de markt, maar de opbrengst kwam niet rechtstreeks bij de vissers
