Hij studeerde in Nederland. De geïnterviewde gaat in op de gelaagdheid van de samenleving. In 1946 ging hij als bestuursambtenaar aan de slag. Alles was voor hem goed geregeld. Hij was uitgezonden om het omliggende gebied te bezetten. Eind 1947 kwam de geïnterviewde in Bandoeng, en hij geeft aan dat men zich niet tijdig gerealiseerd had wat daar allemaal speelde.</p><p>1214.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt verder over zijn functie als controleur. Na de soevereiniteitsoverdracht kon hij zijn functie niet meer goed uitoefenen, zijn advies werd niet meer gevraagd. De geïnterviewde gaat in op het opkomende nationalisme. Hij schets ook een beeld van het dagelijks leven in die tijd. Het werk ging door, maar het was een heel gevaarlijke tijd. Toen hij zijn werk niet meer kon voortzetten vertrok de geïnterviewde naar Nederland.</p><p>1214.3 Na een tijd in Nederland vertrok de geïnterviewde naar Nieuw-Guinea. Hier ging hij als bestuursambtenaar aan de slag in Hollandia. Hij gaat in op de omgang met Papoea’s en vertelt hoe hij zijn werk uitvoerde. Ook gaat hij in op de voorbereidingen op een eventuele Indonesische invasie.</p><p>De echtgenote van de geïnterviewde is ook geïnterviewd voor het SMGI-project. Zie interview 1213. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
