Toen al het personeel opgeroepen werd voor arbeid in Duitsland, wist hij te regelen dat hij van de lijst werd geschrapt. Op een gegeven moment werd hij weer opgeroepen. Ook nu wist hij via het verzet iets te regelen en dook hij een aantal maanden onder. Weer terug in Enspijk had hij een vals persoonsbewijs, verspreidde illegale bladen, bezorgde bonkaarten en hielp het verzet.</p><p>Na te zijn verraden werd hij op 23 april 1944 gearresteerd en overgebracht naar kamp Amersfoort. Na een paar weken in het zware houthakkerscommando te hebben gewerkt, werd hij door toedoen van het verzet bij de NSF (Nederlandse Sein Fabriek, of ‘Radiocommando’) toestellen geplaatst. Dit betekende beter werk en extra eten.</p><p>In juli 1944 wordt hij op transport gesteld naar Buchenwald. Daar kwam hij in één van de zwaarste commando’s: de Gärtnerei. Na het bombardement werkte hij in een bouwcommando. Zes weken na de bevrijding keerde hij huiswaarts.</p><p>Met de verwerking van zijn kampverleden heeft hij veel problemen gehad.
