In 1941 vervulde hij zijn dienstplicht: hij werd door Amerikanen opgeleid voor de infanterie. Zijn taak na de opleiding was het bewaken van Duitse geïnterneerden en NSB'ers. Na de oproep van de koningin en de belofte van de gouverneur dat vrijwilligers beroepsmilitair zouden kunnen worden, heeft hij zich aangemeld als vrijwilliger om te helpen Nederlands Indië te bevrijden. Zijn functie was crew chief op een geïmproviseerd vliegveld van de Engelse luchtmacht in Nieuw Guinea. Na de oorlog werkte hij nog twee jaar op Java en Sumatra als militair. Hij had goede contacten met de bevolking. Het gebrek aan erkenning steekt hem nu. De geïnterviewden hebben bijgedragen aan een schat aan informatie voor onder andere beleidsmakers, onderzoekers, media en het geïnteresseerde publiek.</p><p>Onderstaand treft u de links naar de metadata van alle interviews. De  interviews zijn om privacyredenen alleen na toestemming van het Veternanen Instituut toegankelijk.
