Zijn verzetsactiviteiten bestonden onder andere uit het helpen van joden. Hij heeft zelf ook nog ondergedoken gezeten, onder andere bij een sanatorium. Nadat hij was gearresteerd in augustus 1943 werd hij overgebracht naar kamp Amersfoort. Daar werkte hij in de Bekleidungskammer. Hij stond er achter de balie en noteerde wat de gevangenen droegen, die het kamp binnenkwamen.</p><p>In januari 1944 werd hij een na vluchtpoging naar Buchenwald getransporteerd. Daar werkte hij in de Steinbruch, één van de zwaarste arbeidscommando’s.</p><p>Na Buchenwald werd hij tewerkgesteld in kamp Langenstein. Daar werkte hij in de tunnels. Daarna werd hij overgeplaatst naar de mijnen bij Dingelstädt. Samen met andere gevangenen ontvluchtte hij die mijnen tijdens de gevechten tussen de geallieerden en Duitsers. Uiteindelijk kwam hij de Amerikanen terecht.
