Hij werd lid van de organisatie van Vrij Nederland. Na verraad werd hij opgepakt en ter dood veroordeeld. Nadat deze uitspraak was omgezet in levenslang, werd hij afgevoerd naar kamp Amersfoort. Vervolgens heeft hij korte tijd in kamp Vught gezeten, waarna hij op transport werd gesteld naar Buchenwald.</p><p>In Buchenwald heeft hij enige tijd in de schillenkeuken en in de Bekleidungskammer gewerkt. Hij werd twee maal opgeroepen voor een Nacht-und-Nebel-transport. De eerste keer wist hij daaraan te ontkomen door zich ziek te melden. De tweede keer ontsnapte hij door mee te gaan met een transport naar kamp Wille in Gleina.</p><p>In Gleina bestond zijn taak uit het ophalen van levensmiddelen in het dorp voor de gevangenen en soldaten. Na het opheffen van kamp Wille in Gleina is hij overgebracht naar Rehmsdorf, waar hij werkte in de Leuna-Werke. Toen de Russen oprukten, werd dit kamp op transport gesteld richting Theresienstadt. Onderweg is Langhorst met anderen gevlucht en uiteindelijk bij de geallieerden terecht gekomen.
