Hij gaat in op de verschillende bevolkingsgroepen. Als Indo-Europeaan had de geïnterviewde een hogere status. Vanwege het werk van zijn vader verhuisde de geïnterviewde een aantal keer. De geïnterviewde schetst een beeld van het leven in Indië dat hij meemaakte als kind.</p><p>1320.2 Toen Japan binnenviel verhuisde het gezin van de geïnterviewde naar een plantage in de bergen vlakbij Makassar. De geïnterviewde werkte op de plantage. Japanse militairen kwam in de bergen om versterkingen te bouwen. Het gezin kwam in contact met de Japanners. Zij verbouwden nu hun eigen groenten en zochten voedsel in de bossen. De geïnterviewde leerde in deze tijd veel. Na de bezetting ging de geïnterviewde weer naar de lagere school. Het gezin werd in deze periode geëvacueerd. Het gezin wilde graag in Indië blijven, maar met het oog op de toekomst vertrok het gezin in 1947 naar Nederland.</p><p>Familie van de geïnterviewde is ook geïnterviewd voor het SMGI-project. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
