Tijdens de oorlog moest hij onderduiken. In 1944 werd hij met een grote groep Texelaars naar Assen gevoerd om dwangarbeid te verrichten. In Leeuwarden wist hij te ontsnappen. Hij vertelt over zijn periode in Friesland en hoe hij terug naar Texel wist te komen. Meteen daarna brak de opstand van Georgische krijgsgevangenen uit. Zijn moeder raakte gewond. Zelf wilde hij aanvankelijk meevechten maar ging rechtsomkeert toen hij merkte dat de Duitse troepen aan de winnende hand waren. Hij vertelt over het verloop van de opstand, en hoe hier naderhand op Texel over werd gedacht.
