Als Jantje Visser uit Rotterdam heeft hij het goed bij de Friese familie Osinga waar hij zo’n drie jaar verblijft. In 1946 wordt Jan naar twee dames in Ede gebracht waar zijn jongste broertje ondergedoken heeft gezeten. Vanaf dan heet hij Jan Baljet. In dit gezin wordt hij niet liefdevol opgenomen.</p><p>Als Jan naar de MULO gaat, wordt hem pas verteld dat hij een ‘Jodenjongen’ is en dat zijn ouders overleden zijn. Verder wordt er niet meer over gesproken. Met zijn twee jongere broertjes is het contact nooit meer goed gekomen. In 1978 komt Jan door een toeval in contact met zijn oorlogsbroertjes en oorlogspleegmoeder. Inmiddels zit hij in de WAO. Een belangrijke oorzaak hiervan is dat er nooit gesproken is over zijn jonge jeugdjaren. Zijn enige tante heeft hem wat dat betreft alleen een familiefoto achtergelaten. Weer tien jaar later komt hij er in Yad Vashem achter dat zijn ouders in Sobibor zijn vermoord.</p><p>Jan heeft met zijn vrouw, twee kinderen en kleinkinderen zijn leven op poten weten te zetten.
