Bij het uitbreken van de oorlog met Japan werd de geïnterviewde en haar gezin geëvacueerd. Het was een moeilijke periode, ze moest veel verhuizen en het was heel moeilijk om het grote gezin te onderhouden. Ondertussen werkte haar vader op verschillende plaatsen in Indië. Ze kwam in een vrouwenkamp terecht. De geïnterviewde vertelt over de werkzaamheden en het stiekeme handelen om aan geld te komen. De mannen uit de familie zaten elders in Indië vast. De geïnterviewde trouwde met een KNIL militair die ze vlak na de oorlog tegenkwam. Ze vertelt over zijn taken en zijn tijd in een kamp. De geïnterviewde keerde in 1946 terug naar Nederland waar zij en haar man in het begin een moeilijke tijd hadden.<br>De geïnterviewde had voorafgaand aan het interview wat opgeschreven over de ervaringen van haar echtgenoot in deze periode. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek. Tussen 1997 en 2001 zijn er 1190 interviews met 724 mensen opgenomen, in totaal 2800 uur aan geluidsmateriaal.</p><p>Een overzicht van het project en de interviews in EASY vindt u onder 'Data files'.</p><p>De interviews worden bij DANS duurzaam bewaard, maar worden (voorlopig) door het KITLV zelf ontsloten.
