Hij diende 11 maanden als zware mitrailleurschutter bij het Regiment Grenadiers. Daarna werkte hij als burger tot de mobilisatie in augustus 1939, waarin hij hielp bij de aanleg van vliegveld Ockenburg bij Den Haag. Later werd hij overgeplaatst naar Ypenburg. Hij beschoot op 10 mei met een zware mitrailleur van korte afstand de landende Junkers en werd niet lang daarna krijgsgevangen genomen door zwaarbewapende Duitsers en naar een hangar gebracht. Die werd daarop gebombardeerd en hij raakte daarbij zwaar gewond. Door burgers werd hij naar het katholieke ziekenhuis in Voorburg gebracht. De geïnterviewden hebben bijgedragen aan een schat aan informatie voor onder andere beleidsmakers, onderzoekers, media en het geïnteresseerde publiek.</p><p>Onderstaand treft u de links naar de metadata van alle interviews. De  interviews zijn om privacyredenen alleen na toestemming van het Veternanen Instituut toegankelijk.
