Al voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog vangen haar ouders Duitse vluchtelingen op. CPN12 wordt op jonge leeftijd actief bij een socialistische jeugdorganisatie en later wordt ze lid van een organisatie van geheelonthouders.</p><p>In de jaren dertig raakt haar vader werkloos en leven ze van de steun. Nadat ze bij een demonstratie tegen huurverhoging ziet dat de politie een demonstrant in elkaar slaat, wordt ze lid van de Communistische Jeugdbond (CJB). Als ze achttien is, sluit ze zich aan bij de Communistische Partij Nederland (CPN).</p><p>In de Tweede Wereldoorlog worden CPN12 en haar echtgenoot actief in het verzet. Zo raakt haar echtgenoot betrokken bij de organisatie van de Februaristaking en wordt bij hen thuis onder meer de illegale Waarheid gestencild. In 1941 wordt haar echtgenoot gearresteerd en een jaar later gedood. Na een periode van onderduik gaat CPN12 verder met koerierswerk en neemt ze Joodse onderduikers in huis. In maart 1944 wordt ze gearresteerd. Via kamp Vught wordt ze eerst naar Ravensbrück gebracht en na vier weken naar een kamp in Reichenbach, waar ze dwangarbeid moet verrichten. Na een voettocht van zes dagen worden ze bevrijd door de Canadezen.</p><p>Na de oorlog wordt CPN12 actief bij de vrouwenbeweging, Stop de Neutronenbom en vanaf 1980 bij Vrouwen van Ravensbrück en het Comité 4 en 5 mei. In 1976 leert ze een oud-verzetsman kennen, waarmee ze gaat samenwonen. In 1992 zijn ze getrouwd. In de jaren tachtig begint ze gastlessen te geven op basisscholen over de Tweede Wereldoorlog en kamp Ravensbrück. In de jaren negentig organiseren ze excursies voor middelbare scholieren en later ook voor PABO-studenten naar Ravensbrück. Ook heeft CPN12 zich beijverd voor een wijk in Heerhugowaard waar straatnamen vernoemd zijn naar vrouwelijke verzetsstrijders.<br><br>De aanleiding voor dit interview was het Aletta project om levensverhalen van vrouwen vast te leggen die (actief) lid waren van de Communistische Partij Nederland (CPN) en tenminste 14 waren toen de Tweede Wereldoorlog Na de oorlog verdween echter hun aureool van moed en verzet al snel onder invloed van de Koude Oorlog.</p><p>In dit project zijn de persoonlijke ervaringen van een aantal CPN-vrouwen op beeld vastgelegd. Openhartig vertellen ze over hun politieke overtuiging, het lidmaatschap van de Communistische Partij Nederland, de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de jaren erna, toen de CPN in een isolement raakte.</p><p>In veel gevallen waren de vrouwen al vroeg bewust van de opkomst van het fascisme. Vanaf 1933 maakten zij mee hoe Duitse vluchtelingen werden opgevangen door familie of bekenden. Velen raakten een paar jaar later betrokken bij de Spaanse Burgeroorlog. Verzet bieden tegen de Duitse bezetter was voor hen een vanzelfsprekende keuze.</p><p>In de interviews vertellen zij over hun ervaringen als koerierster, distributeur van bonnenkaarten of bezorger van de illegale Waarheid. In sommige gesprekken gaat het ook over het gewapend verzet, internering en onderduik. Kenmerkend is dat alle vrouwen nadrukkelijk praten over de consequenties van dit alles voor hun verdere (politieke) leven.
