Anders dan veel andere Amersfoorters werd het gezin Fennema in de meidagen van 1940 niet geëvacueerd. Het gezin kwam zonder noemenswaardige problemen door de oorlog, wel dook haar man in de laatste jaren van de oorlog onder. Bovendien ging ze op zoek naar voedsel.</p><p>Het gezin Fennema ging niet mee met de Vrijmaking, maar bleef lid van de synodaal-gereformeerde kerken.
