Op 17 maart 1942 kwamen de Japanners zijn woonplaats binnen. Men kreeg huisarrest, maar de mannen moesten wel doorwerken in de mijnen. De geïnterviewde werd met zijn moeder geïnterneerd en kwam in verschillende kampen. De geïnterviewde beschrijft het moment van de bevrijding en gaat in op de opvang. De bersiap tijd was gevaarlijk. Uiteindelijk probeerde de geïnterviewde zijn school weer op te pakken.</p><p>1280.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt verder over de periode na de bevrijding. Hij vertelt voer de sociale activiteiten die hij deed. Hij was lid van een aantal jeugdclubs. Tot 1949 was het gevaarlijk op straat. De geïnterviewde koos ervoor om in Indië te blijven. Hij wilde meehelpen aan de opbouw van het land. Na 1951 kreeg hij echter te maken met discriminatie, zowel vanwege afkomst als uit jaloezie vanwege betere financiële omstandigheden. De geïnterviewde vertelt over zijn werk en gaat in op hoe de situatie in Indië veranderde. Uiteindelijk moest hij wel vertrekken.</p><p>De echtgenote van de geïnterviewde is ook geïnterviewd voor het SMGI-project. Zie interview 1281. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
