Met subsidie van het Nationaal Regieorgaan Onderwijsonderzoek (NRO) wordt de invoering en uitvoering van passend onderwijs gemonitord en geëvalueerd. In dat kader is in 2018 de derde en laatste meting van de monitoring van passend onderwijs in het mbo uitgevoerd. In deze derde meting is naast een vragenlijst over de invoering en uitvoering van passend onderwijs op het centrale instellingsniveau ook gekeken naar de betekenis van passend onderwijs op het niveau van de opleidingsteams. Daarvoor hebben opleidingsmanagers en zorgcoördinatoren vragenlijsten ingevuld over het opleidingsteam waarbij zij betrokken zijn.

In alle spss datasets is een pseudonummer aangemaakt voor het BRIN-nummer, zodat dit gekoppeld kan worden.
In de variable labels wordt bij sommige vragen alleen een gedeelte van de vraag gepresenteerd. Bv. In hoeverre bent u het eens met A, B, C, etc. In de labels staat dan alleen A, B, C, maar niet de vraag zelf meer. Voor degene die met de bestanden wil werken is de vragenlijst dan de toelichting op wat precies gevraagd is.
Het databestand meting 2 bevat heel erg veel stringvariabelen, die eigenlijk numeriek zijn. Dat had destijds te maken met LimeSurvey.

Op 1 augustus 2014 werd Passend Onderwijs ingevoerd. Het doel van de wet is om leerlingen en studenten een zo passend mogelijke plek in het onderwijs te bieden. Deze stelselwijziging vraagt om een diepgaande samenwerking tussen diverse soorten onderwijs (scholen voor regulier onderwijs en voor speciaal onderwijs) en voor samenwerking tussen onderwijs, jeugdzorg en gemeenten.

Het NRO-onderzoeksprogramma Evaluatie Passend Onderwijs (2014-2020) heeft de invoering van Passend Onderwijs geëvalueerd (NRO projectnummer 405-15-750). De onderzoeken werden uitgevoerd door een consortium van onderzoeksinstellingen, onder leiding van het Kohnstamm Instituut. Deze website bevat alle onderzoeksrapporten, de tussenstand-rapportages en het publicatieoverzicht van het consortium die tot op heden zijn verschenen. Op 27 mei 2020 is dit programma officieel afgerond met de overhandiging van het eindrapport aan het ministerie van OCW.
Ten behoeve van secundair onderzoek wordt een groot aantal kwantitatieve onderzoeksbestanden beschikbaar gesteld via DANS. Dit betreft uitsluitend onderzoeken die tot de langetermijnevaluatie passend onderwijs behoren, uitgevoerd in de periode 2015-2020. Data die eerder zijn verzameld, in opdracht van de ECPO of als onderdeel van de kortetermijnevaluatie waarvan NRO ook de subsidiegever was, zijn niet meegenomen. Die vallen buiten onze verantwoordelijkheid voor het verstrekken van data uit de langetermijnevaluatie.
