Tijdens de bezetting bleef hij buiten het kamp en werd hij bij familie onder gebracht. De geïnterviewde heeft weinig gemerkt van geldgebrek of voedseltekort. Hij hielp mee met groenten verbouwen en op andere manieren eten bij elkaar scharrelen. Het grote verschil met de tijd voor de bezetting was, dat hij niet naar school ging. Hij zag eruit als een Indonesisch jongetje, en had daardoor veel vrijheid. Pas tijdens de politionele acties maakte de geïnterviewde geweld mee dat echt indruk op hem maakte. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek. Tussen 1997 en 2001 zijn er 1190 interviews met 724 mensen opgenomen, in totaal 2800 uur aan geluidsmateriaal.</p><p>Een overzicht van het project en de interviews in EASY vindt u onder 'Data files'.</p><p>De interviews worden bij DANS duurzaam bewaard, maar worden (voorlopig) door het KITLV zelf ontsloten.
