Hij vertelt over de voorbereiding in Nederland en Engeland voor het uiteindelijke vertrek. De geïnterviewde vertelt over de reis naar Indië met de Tegelberg. De geïnterviewde vertelt over de militaire inzet rondom Soerabaja en gaat in op de eerste politionele actie. Hij was als soldaat geweerschutter ingedeeld. Na verloop van tijd dient de geïnterviewde als codist bij de infanterie van het KNIL.</p><p>1637.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt over de periode rond de twee politionele acties. Hij vertelt over zijn werkzaamheden als codist. Hij trekt met de infanterie door Indië. Als hij in maart 1949 bij het 2-10 RI terugkomt, is het duidelijk dat de Nederlandse zaak verloren is. Hij gaat in op de negatieve weerslag hiervan op de troep. In Nederland gaat hij de kaderopleiding volgen en wordt in 1951 uitgezonden naar Nieuw-Guinea. In Fakfak, en later in Sorong, worden oefeningen gedaan en patrouilles gelopen. De geïnterviewde schetst een beeld van de situatie en de militaire inzet.</p><p>De genoemde echtgenote van de geïnterviewde is ook geïnterviewd voor het SMGI-project. Zie interview 1640. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
