Na de aankomst in Batavia, waar hij en zijn maten de eerste weken enkele gebouwen moesten bewaken, begon voor hen het zware werk: patrouilles in de omgeving van Tasik Malaya, waar de jongens kameraden verloren in een oorlog waarvoor ze niet gemotiveerd waren. Een buitengewoon eerlijk verhaal over wat een guerrilla-oorlog met je doet en de machteloosheid van jongens met een lage militaire rang. Bijzonder is het verhaal over twee Javaanse jongetjes, die met dit Infanterie-onderdeel mee optrokken over Java en als het ware geadopteerd waren door de Nederlandse militairen.<br><br>Met de geïnterviewde zijn twee of meer interviews gehouden. De geïnterviewden hebben bijgedragen aan een schat aan informatie voor onder andere beleidsmakers, onderzoekers, media en het geïnteresseerde publiek.</p><p>Onderstaand treft u de links naar de metadata van alle interviews. De  interviews zijn om privacyredenen alleen na toestemming van het Veternanen Instituut toegankelijk.
