Doel ervan is inzicht geven in (veranderingen in) de arbeidssituatie van deze groep. Belangrijke thema’s in het AAP zijn huidige werk, arbeidsduur, zoekgedrag naar een (andere) baan, arbeidsmobiliteit, deelname aan scholing, meningen over werken en niet-werken. De doelpopulatie is de Nederlandse bevolking vanaf 16 jaar tot aan de AOW-leeftijd. De nadruk ligt op het aanbod aan arbeidskrachten in Nederland, dus werkenden en potentiële werkenden. Sinds 2004 zijn ook scholieren en studenten in de steekproef opgenomen. 65- en 66-jarigen zijn vanaf toen eveneens ondervraagd, hoewel de AOW-leeftijd destijds nog op 65 jaar lag, om de overgang naar pensionering beter in beeld te krijgen.<br>Het AAP is een panelonderzoek. Dat betekent dat de deelnemers eraan worden gevolgd over de tijd. Bij elke bevragingsronde benaderen we eerst degenen die aan de voorgaande meting deelnamen, plus hun eventuele huisgenoten. Zo’n 70% tot 80% van de oud-deelnemers werkt weer mee. Daarnaast werven we nieuwe deelnemers om de omvang van het panel op peil te houden en ervoor te zorgen dat ook jongeren voldoende vertegenwoordigd zijn.<br>De eerste meting van het AAP was in 1985. Vanaf de tweede meting, in 1986, vindt de dataverzameling telkens om de twee jaar plaats, namelijk in het najaar van de even jaren.<br>In tegenstelling tot voorgaande metingen is van 2016 een CCF databestand (controlled circulation file) opgesteld. Dit is een beveiligd (geanonimiseerd) bestand. Uit het oorspronkelijke databestand zijn variabelen verwijderd of ingedikt. Door deze beveiliging zijn antwoorden niet meer direct te herleiden naar respondenten.<br>In de bijgeleverde documentatie wordt het anonimiseren van het Arbeidsaanbodpanel 2016
