Op 12-jarige leeftijd wordt CPN11 lid van de Arbeiders Jeugd Centrale (AJC). Ze gaat uit logeren naar koloniehuizen. Ze wordt al jong hulp in de huishouding. Naast haar werk overdag gaat ze 's avonds tekenles volgen aan de kunstnijverheidsschool.</p><p>In de jaren dertig wordt CPN11 actief lid van de Communistische Partij Nederland (CPN). Ze zet zich bijvoorbeeld in voor de Internationale Rode Hulp (IRH), zamelt geld in voor de Spaanse Burgeroorlog, maakt tekeningen voor communistische krantjes en distribueert materiaal. Ook is ze actief bij de Vereniging voor Cultuur, Ontwikkeling en Ontspanning (VCOO).</p><p>Via haar eerste man wordt ze actief in het verzet. Hij wordt gearresteerd en uiteindelijk gefusilleerd. Haar tweede man, die een aantal concentratiekampen overleefd heeft, leert ze na de oorlog kennen op een afdelingsvergadering van de CPN. Hij heeft een kind uit zijn eerste huwelijk en samen krijgen ze ook nog een kind. Hij heeft moeite om een baan te vinden vanwege zijn overtuigingen. Ook worden ze enige tijd in de gaten gehouden.</p><p>In 1952 hebben ze hun CPN-lidmaatschap opgezegd, uit onvrede met een aantal ontwikkelingen binnen de partij. Vanaf 1969 is haar man langdurig ziek. Hij heeft onder andere last van het kampsyndroom. Een groot deel van het interview gaat over de schilderkunst van CPN11.<br><br>De aanleiding voor dit interview was het Aletta project om levensverhalen van vrouwen vast te leggen die (actief) lid waren van de Communistische Partij Nederland (CPN) en tenminste 14 waren toen de Tweede Wereldoorlog Na de oorlog verdween echter hun aureool van moed en verzet al snel onder invloed van de Koude Oorlog.</p><p>In dit project zijn de persoonlijke ervaringen van een aantal CPN-vrouwen op beeld vastgelegd. Openhartig vertellen ze over hun politieke overtuiging, het lidmaatschap van de Communistische Partij Nederland, de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de jaren erna, toen de CPN in een isolement raakte.</p><p>In veel gevallen waren de vrouwen al vroeg bewust van de opkomst van het fascisme. Vanaf 1933 maakten zij mee hoe Duitse vluchtelingen werden opgevangen door familie of bekenden. Velen raakten een paar jaar later betrokken bij de Spaanse Burgeroorlog. Verzet bieden tegen de Duitse bezetter was voor hen een vanzelfsprekende keuze.</p><p>In de interviews vertellen zij over hun ervaringen als koerierster, distributeur van bonnenkaarten of bezorger van de illegale Waarheid. In sommige gesprekken gaat het ook over het gewapend verzet, internering en onderduik. Kenmerkend is dat alle vrouwen nadrukkelijk praten over de consequenties van dit alles voor hun verdere (politieke) leven.
