Haar ouders zijn actief in de geheelonthoudersbeweging en zelf wordt ze lid van de Jongelieden Geheelonthoudersbond (JGOB).</p><p>In 1935 wordt ze lid van de Communistische Partij Nederland (CPN) en later van de Nederlandse Vrouwen Beweging (NVB). Vanwege haar politieke voorkeur kan ze geen baan vinden als onderwijzeres. Ze ontmoet haar echtgenoot tijdens een activiteit van de CPN en ze trouwen in 1939. Om te voorkomen dat hij naar Duitsland moet om te werken, is hij het grootste deel van de Tweede Wereldoorlog ondergedoken bij familie.</p><p>De echtgenoot van de geinterviewde zit in de gemeenteraad voor de CPN. Hij is ook actief bij de Eenheids Vakcentrale (EVC). Zij is actief bij de vrouwenbeweging en later bij een coöperatie voor levensmiddelen.<br><br>De aanleiding voor dit interview was het Aletta project om levensverhalen van vrouwen vast te leggen die (actief) lid waren van de Communistische Partij Nederland (CPN) en tenminste 14 waren toen de Tweede Wereldoorlog Na de oorlog verdween echter hun aureool van moed en verzet al snel onder invloed van de Koude Oorlog.</p><p>In dit project zijn de persoonlijke ervaringen van een aantal CPN-vrouwen op beeld vastgelegd. Openhartig vertellen ze over hun politieke overtuiging, het lidmaatschap van de Communistische Partij Nederland, de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de jaren erna, toen de CPN in een isolement raakte.</p><p>In veel gevallen waren de vrouwen al vroeg bewust van de opkomst van het fascisme. Vanaf 1933 maakten zij mee hoe Duitse vluchtelingen werden opgevangen door familie of bekenden. Velen raakten een paar jaar later betrokken bij de Spaanse Burgeroorlog. Verzet bieden tegen de Duitse bezetter was voor hen een vanzelfsprekende keuze.</p><p>In de interviews vertellen zij over hun ervaringen als koerierster, distributeur van bonnenkaarten of bezorger van de illegale Waarheid. In sommige gesprekken gaat het ook over het gewapend verzet, internering en onderduik. Kenmerkend is dat alle vrouwen nadrukkelijk praten over de consequenties van dit alles voor hun verdere (politieke) leven.
