Symbiosis is a multiple case study into Dutch IT-outsourcing practice. Outsourcing is an important economic activity. For that reasons it makes sense to discover what contributes to the success of outsourcing projects. For this purpose detailed information has been gathered from 30 cases by means of interviews guided by questionnaires. The cases have been followed over a number of years.

At the time, the process proceeded as follows: the interviews were conducted using paper questionnaires; the answers to the questions and additional information were recorded on the forms, after which the forms were converted into Microsoft Word documents. The completed paper forms have been destroyed. The Microsoft Word transcripts have been archived but are not part of the dataset on DANS. The participating parties did not want their names or other confidential information made public. The database was compiled based on the anonymized Microsoft Word transcripts. The documents in the dataset describe this process in detail.
