In een eerdere bijdrage verkenden wij de vraag hoe ‘gewone mensen’ denken over de toedeling en verdeling van verantwoordelijkheden en risico’s in een aantal aansprakelijkheidsrechtelijke casus.  Die verkenning had als doel het vergroten van onze kennis van de onder burgers levende rechtsovertuigingen over civielrechtelijke verhoudingen. Met dit artikel willen we op een vergelijkbare manier kijken naar het spanningsveld tussen enerzijds eigen verantwoordelijkheid en anderzijds bescherming tegen verkeerde keuzes door bijvoorbeeld overheid of derden. We stelden onszelf twee vragen: (1) wat vinden burgers van de keuzes die het recht maakt waar het gaat om het vraagstuk ‘eigen verantwoordelijkheid en bescherming tegen verkeerde keuzes’? En (2) welke invloed gaat uit van de ‘persoonlijke wereldvisie’ van de respondent bij zijn oordeelsvorming?
