Het was het eerste huwelijk tussen een Maastrichts meisje en een Amerikaanse soldaat dat werd voltrokken in het Wittevrouwenveld. Na de oorlog vertrok de moeder van de geïnterviewde op een schip vol oorlogsbruiden naar de VS, waar ze het 6 weken uithield. Ze ging terug. Haar man reisde haar achterna en vond werk op de Amerikaanse begraafplaats in Margraten, die op dat moment werd heringericht. Er werden woningen op de begraafplaats gebouwd voor de superintendent en de assistent superintendent. De huizen waren zeer modern voor die tijd. De vader wil niet geïnterviewd worden omdat hij slechte herinneringen heeft. Geïnterviewde herinnert zich dat zijn sociale leven begon toen ze verhuisde vanaf de begraafplaats naar de bakkerij van zijn opa in de
