Haar ouder waren Nederlands, zij groeide op in Indië. Ze beschrijft haar ervaringen van het begin van de Japanse bezetting. Haar vader had tijdens de oorlog beschikking over gevoelige informatie waardoor het gezin na de oorlog, toen dit bekend werd, het land uit vluchtte.</p><p>1649.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt over haar ervaringen van de capitulatie van het KNIL en gaat in op het gevaar van de geheime informatie die op straat kon komen te liggen. Het leven ging tijdens de Japanse bezetting in eerste instantie voor haar familie gewoon door. Met het hele gezin werden ze in augustus 1943 in het Tjiboenoet-kamp geïnterneerd. Vanuit dit kamp werd de geïnterviewde met anderen door de Japanners naar Singapore gebracht en vanuit daar naar Japan.</p><p>1649.3 De geïnterviewde vertelt over de situatie in Tokio. Men moest met heel beperkte middelen in erbarmelijke omstandigheden overleven. De Amerikanen hadden de aanval ingezet en uiteindelijk werden de gevangene bevrijd. Het waren hevige bombardementen waarbij ook gewonden vielen in het kamp.</p><p>1649.4 De geïnterviewde vertelt verder over de periode rond de capitulatie van Japan. Ze vertelt over de opvang in Indië en later in Australië na vertrek uit Japan. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
