In 1656 verscheen van zijn hand Notarius publicus, dat is, de practycke ende oeffeninge der notarissen, gedrukt in Leiden. Achter de derde druk van Notarius publicus uit 1658 te Dordrecht voegde Van Leeuwen een puristische woordenlijst toe, bestaande uit ongeveer 4000 leenwoorden met voorgestelde vernederlandsingen, waarmee de woordenlijst omvangrijker was dan het hele notarisboek.
