Naast het vele vele verhuizen en de vele scholen had de geïnterviewde een goede jeugd. Na het uitbreken van de oorlog in Europa ging hij bij de luchtbeschermingsdienst als telefonist. In 1943 werd zijn gezin geïnterneerd. Hij beschrijft de situatie en de werkzaamheden in de kampen. Tussen de verschillende etniciteiten werd toen nog geen echt onderscheid gemaakt. Na de capitulatie werd hij met zijn vader door de Indonesiërs geïnterneerd. Uiteindelijk vertrok het gezin naar Nederland wat onverwachts voorgoed was.</p><p>De echtgenote van de geïnterviewde is ook geïnterviewd voor het SMGI-project. Zie interview 1134. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
