Hij groeide voor een deel op in een weeshuis te Semarang. De geïnterviewde vertelt hoe hij de Japanse bezettingstijd heeft ervaren. Hij werd op jonge leeftijd geconfronteerd met oorlog, ellende en gruwelijke strafmaatregelen van de Japanners. De zusters van meneer Wolff moesten zoveel mogelijk binnen blijven en hij moest zijn moeder steunen in haar handeltje buitenshuis. Hij bleef tijdens de bezetting buiten het kamp. Tot slot vertelt de geïnterviewde over de bersiaptijd en hoe hij eind 1945 met zijn familie door de Engelsen via Semarang naar Soerabaja werd geëvacueerd.</p><p>1623.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt vier de periode na de evacuatie. Hij vertelt over de beschietingen en het bombardement in Ambarawa terwijl hij en zijn familie ter bescherming in het kamp fort Willem I waren gebracht.De geïnterviewde vertelt hoe hij zijn schooltijd weer hervatte en aan het werk ging. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek. Tussen 1997 en 2001 zijn er 1190 interviews met 724 mensen opgenomen, in totaal 2800 uur aan geluidsmateriaal.</p><p>Een overzicht van het project en de interviews in EASY vindt u onder 'Data files'.</p><p>De interviews worden bij DANS duurzaam bewaard, maar worden (voorlopig) door het KITLV zelf ontsloten.
