De basisopleiding in Nijmegen vond hij erg matig. Hierna volgde hij een opleiding tot welzijnsonderofficier die afgerond werd bij het CLN. Daar hoorde de geinterveiwde pas dat een aantal naar Indie moesten. Op de Grote Beer vertrok hij richting vliegveld Semplak. Naast zijn welzijnsactiviteiten deed hij ook andere klussen. De groep was klein, er was weinig discipline. Hij noemt de situatie wat amateuristisch. Twee mannen sneuvelden wat hem erg raakte. De geinterviewde betrok vooral de lokale bevolking bij zijn activiteiten. Hij raakte zo ook betrokken bij een groep weeskinderen. Tussen de verschillende gelegerde groepen was een soort scheiding. Het werd vanzelfsprekend gevonden dat er tegen de opstandlingen gevochten werd. Bij terugkomst in Nederland ging hij meteen weer aan het werk. De geïnterviewden hebben bijgedragen aan een schat aan informatie voor onder andere beleidsmakers, onderzoekers, media en het geïnteresseerde publiek.</p><p>Onderstaand treft u de links naar de metadata van alle interviews.
