Hij deed voorkomen alsof hij hieraan gevolg gaf, maar dook onder. Hij is verschillende keren gearresteerd en werd diverse keren mishandeld.</p><p>Op een gegeven moment kreeg hij van SD een dwangbevel om te gaan werken op het vliegveld in Eindhoven bij een bedrijf dat voor de Duitsers werkte. Hij kreeg er ruzie met NSB-ers en pleegde sabotage. Op 24 juli 1944 werd hij opgepakt en vier dagen later naar kamp Amersfoort gestuurd. Vervolgens werd hij op 8 september 1944 op transport gezet naar kamp Neuengamme en van daaruit naar een buitenkamp, waar hij anti-tankgrachten moest graven.</p><p>Op 20 december 1944 ging hij op transport naar Buchenwald. Hij zat er tot eind december en werd toen naar Hadmersleben gestuurd. Daar moest hij in de zoutmijnen werken.</p><p>Rond 11 april 1945 moesten de gevangenen het kamp te voet verlaten. Deze dodenmars werd door de Amerikanen bevrijd.
