Zijn vader werd geïnterneerd en hij moest in dienst. Na de capitulatie van het KNIL werd de geïnterviewde kort gevangen gezet. De geïnterviewde moest hierna als vrijwilliger werken op vliegveld. De bombardementen maakten dat hij kon vluchten.</p><p>1306.2 Nadat de geïnterviewde van het vliegveld was weggevlucht werkte hij als corveeër bij een hoge functionaris. Na zijn militaire dienst kon hij naar de politieschool in Soekaboemi. Hij werd hoofdagent in vier maanden. Na zijn politieopleiding ging hij naar Nieuw-Guinea waar hij als gouvernementsambtenaar werkte. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
