Hij heeft zijn vader en ook zijn grootvader opgevolgd, die beiden in deze oude begrafenisvereniging actief waren. Komin was daarnaast ook lang lid van vereniging Ons Belang, oftewel het Bazenbondje. Hij gaf dat lidmaatschap op nadat hij werknemer werd bij een bedrijf na het faillissement van zijn eigen aannemersbedrijf en daarmee niet meer zelfstandig ondernemer was. Komin was ook lid van de Raad van Toezicht bij de Rabobank Amsterdam-Noord, die voort was gekomen uit een fusie tussen de Raiffeisenbank en de Boerenleenbank. Komins vader was eerder al lid van de Raad van Toezicht van de Boerenleenbank, die sinds 1910 op de Nieuwendammerdijk gevestigd was. Tevens was Komin lid van de jachtvereniging. Door deze lidmaatschappen en verwantschappen was hij een duidelijk aanwezige persoon in de sociale structuur van de lokale gemeenschap. Komin groeide op aan het Brede Kerkpad waar hij ook als volwassene lang heeft gewoond. Hij heeft Nieuwendam zien veranderen van een omgeving met veel bedrijvigheid en met een agrarisch achterland naar een woonbuurt. Hij juicht het toe als nieuwe leden zich aanmelden voor Gedenkt te Sterven, maar constateert tevens dat zij niet meer uit zijn omgeving en/of verleden afkomstig zijn. Komin is er trots op de lijn van activiteiten van zijn grootvader en vader voortgezet te hebben.
