Henk Schreuder. Hij hielp ook met het opzetten van de opvang van passanten. Met dit werk ontliep hij de Arbeitseinsatz. (00:03) Van de Mast leverde hand- en spandiensten, onder meer via de fietsbrancard in de hele gemeente Nijkerk voor het vervoer van patiënten (00:05; 00:58-01:01), onder andere kraamvrouwen. (01:02-01:06) Ook zijn zus Jo werkt aan de Gasthuisstraat; thuis bij zijn moeder woonden twee verpleegsters uit Arnhem. Zelf werd Van de Mast verliefd op een verpleegster in het Van Delenhuis, maar de relatie werd afgekeurd door zijn moeder omdat het meisje niet katholiek was. (01:19-01:20) De sfeer in Nijkerk was tamelijk ontspannen. Voedseltekort was er niet; het gezin zelf deed veel aan ruilhandel. Hulp aan evacués en passanten werd zondermeer verleend, maar was niet expliciet religieus gemotiveerd. De gemeente hielp veel. Van de Mast bleef gewonden verzorgen onder beschietingen door (01:14-01:16), maar beschouwt zichzelf niet als een held. (01:17) Hij zag het als zijn plicht. Nijkerkers pleegden relatief weinig verzet tegen Duitsers. De razzia in Putten boezemde Nijkerkers extra angst in en maakte dubbel voorzichtig.
