Het gezin had goede contacten met Indonesiërs. Tijdens de bersiap kwam de geïnterviewde in de gevangenis en werd bevrijd door Japanners. Hij ging kort in dienst en ging eind jaren 40 naar Nieuw-Guinea.</p><p>1327.2 De geïnterviewde was onderofficier toen hij besloot naar Nieuw-Guinea te gaan. Hij vertelt hoe hij hiertoe werd aangetrokken en hoe de tocht naar Nieuw-Guinea ging. Hij tekende voor DETA. Met een groep jongens uit Indië begon hij zijn leven in Nieuw-Guinea. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
