De plek werd door de Duitse bezetter in november 1941 gevorderd als markt voor Joden. De markt bestond tot augustus 1943.<br>Toen Joodse kooplieden van reguliere markten moesten verdwijnen, zochten de Duitse en lokale autoriteiten naar ruime omheinde plekken voor Joodse markten. Vaak viel de keuze op sportterreinen en kinderspeelplaatsen. De Joden werden vanaf dat moment verplicht hun inkopen op deze markten te doen. De andere buurtgenoten waren hiervan getuige en zagen hoe speelterreinen moesten plaatsmaken voor markten. Welke impact had dit op een buurt waar Joden en niet-Joden samenleefden? Hoe is deze maatregel van invloed geweest op de buurtgenoten?<br>Met antwoorden op deze vragen wil het project bijdragen aan de geschiedschrijving van de Jodenvervolging in Amsterdam, in het bijzonder in de Rivierenbuurt. Van de Joodse markt aan de Gaaspstraat bestond een filmpje dat verloren was gewaand, maar inmiddels is teruggevonden.
