Hij verbleef op Midden-Java. In 1943 was hij verplicht om naar een Japanse school te gaan. Hij voelde na de oorlog de dreiging die uitging van de gemilitariseerde Indonesiërs tegenover Hollanders en Indische Nederlanders en wilde niet graag in Indonesië blijven. Hij greep toen in 1950 de mogelijkheid aan om uitgezonden te worden naar Nieuw-Guinea als DETA-jongen.</p><p>1565.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt over zijn werkzaamheden als DETA-jongen in Nieuw-Guinea. Hij schetst een beeld van de situatie in Nieuw-Guinea in deze periode. De geïnterviewde werd later aangesteld bij de Residentie Waterstaat Dienst (RWD) waar hij uiteindelijk hoofdopziener werd bij de bouw. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek. Tussen 1997 en 2001 zijn er 1190 interviews met 724 mensen opgenomen, in totaal 2800 uur aan geluidsmateriaal.</p><p>Een overzicht van het project en de interviews in EASY vindt u onder 'Data files'.</p><p>De interviews worden bij DANS duurzaam bewaard, maar worden (voorlopig) door het KITLV zelf ontsloten.
