Hij groeide op in Nederland en maakte de Tweede Wereldoorlog mee. De geïnterviewde wilde beroepsofficier worden en ging daarom naar Indië. Hij zat bij de ondersteuningscompagnie van het 402e bataljon infanterie KL (later het Vickers-peloton). De geïnterviewde schetst de situatie van de militaire inzet en gaat in op de training door het KNIL. Hij vertelt over zijn ervaringen van de tweede politionele actie. Vanaf mei 1949 wordt de tegenstander steeds sterker. De geïnterviewde gaat in op het besef van de nederlaag en hoe gaandeweg het moreel van de Nederlandse troep verslechtert.</p><p>1639.2 In 1949 werd de geïnterviewde bevorderd en kreeg een leidinggevende functie. Hij gaat in op de militaire situatie rond Sorong. Intensieve patrouilles en dodelijke vuurgevechten zijn aan de orde. De geïnterviewde gaat in op de overdracht aan de TNI na de soevereiniteitsoverdracht. De wapens worden niet overgedragen. Hij komt hierna op de post te Koedoes en enkele andere posten waarbij het bataljon langzaam wordt samengetrokken. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
