Doel ervan is inzicht geven in (veranderingen in) de arbeidssituatie van deze groep. Belangrijke thema’s in het AAP zijn huidige werk, arbeidsduur, zoekgedrag naar een (andere) baan, arbeidsmobiliteit, deelname aan scholing, meningen over werken en niet-werken. De doelpopulatie is de Nederlandse bevolking vanaf 16 jaar tot aan de AOW-leeftijd. De nadruk ligt op het aanbod aan arbeidskrachten in Nederland, dus werkenden en potentiële werkenden. Sinds 2004 zijn ook scholieren en studenten in de steekproef opgenomen. 65- en 66-jarigen zijn vanaf toen eveneens ondervraagd, hoewel de AOW-leeftijd destijds nog op 65 jaar lag, om de overgang naar pensionering beter in beeld te krijgen.</p><p>Van het Arbeidsaanbodpanel meting 2020 is, in samenspraak met het CBS, een CCF databestand (Controlled Circulation File) opgesteld. Dit is een geanonimiseerd bestand. Uit het oorspronkelijke databestand zijn variabelen verwijderd of ingedikt. Door deze beveiliging zijn antwoorden niet meer direct te herleiden naar respondenten.
