Hij groeide op in Medan. De geïnterviewde vertelt over zijn ervaringen van de Japanse bezetting in Medan. Hij gat in op de confrontatie met de Japanners. Vanwege zijn achtergrond en goede connecties kon de geïnterviewde buiten het kamp blijven. Na de capitulatie is hij met het Rode-Kruis naar de kampen geweest. De geïnterviewde gaat in op het Indonesische nationalisme. De geïnterviewde schetst een beeld de bersiaptijd. Hij vertelt over de verschillende strijdende groepen.</p><p>1650.2 De geïnterviewde gaat in dit gesprek verder in op zijn schooltijd en hoe hij opgroeide. De geïnterviewde vertelt over de zaak van de familie waarin hij werkte, deze zaak kwam na de bezetting weer goed op gang. In 1980 sloot hij de zaak, de corruptie werd toen heel erg. De geïnterviewde vertelt ook verder over de situatie rond de Japanse inval en gaat in op de registratie. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek. Tussen 1997 en 2001 zijn er 1190 interviews met 724 mensen opgenomen, in totaal 2800 uur aan geluidsmateriaal.</p><p>Een overzicht van het project en de interviews in EASY vindt u onder 'Data files'.</p><p>De interviews worden bij DANS duurzaam bewaard, maar worden (voorlopig) door het KITLV zelf ontsloten.
