Zijn grootouders hadden een goed lopend eigen bedrijf waar de familie dicht bij betrokken was. De geïnterviewde zou het bedrijf overnemen. De geïnterviewde vertelt hoe het hem en het bedrijf verging tijdens de Japanse bezetting. De Japanners kwamen op het bedrijf langs voor hun product, maar dit ging zonder problemen. Het dagelijks leven kon eigenlijk gewoon doorgaan. Tijdens de bersiap tijd waren er meer spanningen. De geïnterviewde werd uiteindelijk geïnterneerd. In deze periode ging het slecht met de familie en raakte ze veel eigendommen kwijt. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
