Hij moest in dienst bij het KNIL. De geïnterviewde vertelt over het begin van de oorlog en gaat in op zijn krijgsgevangenschap.</p><p>1608.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt verder over zijn tijd als krijgsgevangene, hij werkte onder andere aan de Birma-spoorlijn. De geïnterviewde vertelt hoe hij na de bevrijding weer in dienst moet. Hij reflecteert op de militaire inzet in Indië in deze periode. even was er sprake van om naar Nieuw-Guinea te vertrekken, maar dat werd afgeblazen. Tot slot vertelt de geïnterviewde over zijn vertrek naar Nederland en hoe hij zich daar inzet erkenning van de dienstplichtige KNIL'ers en de positie van de Indische mensen in de Nederlandse samenleving.</p><p>1608.3 De geïnterviewde vertelt in dit gesprek over de periode eind jaren '40, jaren '50. Hij is als burger aan het werk. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
