De geïnterviewde vertelt over de verschillende kampen waar hij in terecht kwam tijdens de Japanse bezetting. Nadat hij te werk was gesteld bij de Birmaspoorlijn werden de gevangen naar Japan getransporteerd. De geïnterviewde vertelt over het werken in de kolenmijn en beschrijft de dramatische omstandigheden tijdens zijn gevangenschap. De bevrijding werd duidelijk via pamfletten. De verscheping vanuit het kamp en de opvang hierna was ook een indrukwekkende gebeurtenis.</p><p>1027.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt over de periode na de Japanse capitulatie. De geïnterviewde ontving militaire training van Australiërs. In 1946 ging de geïnterviewde als kwartiermaker aan de slag in Batavia, hij was gelegerd in een groot vooroorlogs kazernecomplex. De geïnterviewde vertelt over de Tangerang-actie, dit was de belangrijkste actie in de bersiaptijd. De geïnterviewde beschrijft de verdere militaire inzet voor de eerste politionele actie. Hij gaat uitgebreid in op de strijd, de acties van de artillerie waar de geïnterviewde bij zat, en schets het beeld van de algehele militaire inzet.</p><p>De echtgenote van de geïnterviewde is ook geïnterviewd voor het SMGI-project. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
