Dichtbij de boerderij lag een vliegveld dat tijdens de bezetting als militaire vliegbasis door de Duitsers is gebruikt. Ook was vlakbij de boerderij een barak waarin Duitse soldaten gelegerd waren. Deze militairen hebben gedurende een korte tijd met het gezin in de boerderij meegegeten.<br><br>In het voorjaar 1945 heeft het gezin zes weken een Duitse soldaat ingekwartierd gehad. Deze man moest op de gevorderde paarden passen die in de stal van de familie waren ondergebracht. Het was een wat oudere man die erg anti-Hitler was. Meneer Oostenbrug vond de Duitsers in en om het huis erg aardig en was niet bang voor hen.<br><br>Op het eind van de oorlog werd de vliegbasis een aantal keer gebombardeerd. Meneer Oostenbrug was een nacht erg bang dat de boerderij geraakt zou worden.<br><br>Over de Jodenvervolging was wel het een en ander bekend, maar dat ging toch enigszins langs meneer Oostenbrug heen. Verre familie van meneer Oostenbrug was lid van de NSB. In het gezin werd dat veroordeeld, maar men maakte zich er niet erg druk om. Ook was het bekend dat sommige vrouwen een relatie met een Duitse soldaat hadden, maar ook dat was geen onderwerp waar veel aandacht werd geschonken.<br><br>Er komen enkele onderwerpen van publieke discussies ter sprake: het optreden van Johan Heesters, de Drie van Breda en de ervaringen van
