In 1951 kwam hij in dienst voor de KPM. Op zee kreeg hij met hardhandige communisten te maken. De geïnterviewde werd gemobiliseerd om naar Nieuw-Guinea te gaan. De geïnterviewde gaat in op de politieke spanningen tussen Amerika, Nederland en Rusland.</p><p>1475.2 De geïnterviewde vertelt over zijn ervaringen van de bersiap tijd. Verder gaat hij in op de actie rond Nieuw-Guinea. De geïnterviewde vertrok eind jaren '50 als spijtoptant naar Nederland. Men koos ervoor om geen onderzoeksproject op te zetten, maar om zich te concentreren op het verzamelen van de verhalen van mensen vanuit archiveringsoogpunt als basis voor toekomstig onderzoek.
